Commitment
Commitment is something we all have until we don’t. Way to state the obvious, right? Isn’t it true though, that on many occasions we have great intentions and start off strong in some endeavour until we end up procrastinating, getting sidetracked with another project, or simply give up because the task seems too laborious after all. Isn’t it also true that we say we will complete some project, or carry out some task and at times we don’t even begin? We are all guilty of this to some degree and can end up letting down our friends, our brothers and sisters, our parents, our co-workers, and, most importantly, our God. Ecclesiastes 5:4 says “When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.” In other words, we must commit to what we say we will do. God tells us we are fools if we don’t. In verse 6, He declares that our mouths can cause us to sin by speaking and not following through. Suddenly, we realize commitment isn’t just about letting people down, it's about fulfilling the will of God. Let us rise up together and commit to being committed. Let us commit to our God, our ecclesias, our families, and friends. Let us commit to our various roles at the school. Are you a student? Commit to doing your best. Commit to coming in with a positive attitude everyday. Commit to being a better friend. Are you a teacher? Commit to sacrificing your time. Commit to loving the students like your own. Commit to preparing the hearts and minds of the children for the next phases of their lives. Are you in administration? Commit to upholding God’s standards. Commit to being a good listener. Commit to having hard conversations. Commit to giving your all in order to make the school a better place. Are you a parent? Commit to supporting your children. Commit to constructive conversations with your child’s teacher. Commit to supporting the teachers. Commit to helping where needed. Some of our commitments will be difficult, but we are encouraged in Galatians 6:9 that if we “do not grow weary in doing good, in due season we shall reap, if we faint not!” Consider what we are sowing at CHC - a generation that is capable of living in this world as a saint; pleasing God and preparing for His son’s soon return! Even so, come, Lord Jesus. I pray for another successful school year and look forward to labouring with you all.
