Morning Devotion Thoughts
During the month of November, we studied the events of Exodus 14–17. Brother Carl Foster spoke about how the children of Israel left Egypt and crossed through the Red Sea. Before this, they had come from Etham, the edge of the wilderness, and God led them to camp near a place called Baal-zephon, a name meaning “false idols” and “gloomy, ”symbolizing a difficult or troubling situation. In our own lives, we may also find ourselves in circumstances we don’t want to be in, yet God may lead us there for a purpose. Exodus 14:13 reminds us, “Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD. ”The Egyptians, with their hardened hearts, were focused only on themselves. At times, we might act the same way. 1 Corinthians 10:24 says, “Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbour. ”The
Egyptians pursued Israel into the sea, illustrating the danger of not knowing the LORD (Exodus 5:2). God requires obedience from us just as He did from them. The main lessons we learned were to fear not and to stand still, trusting in God. We must not go back to Egypt, symbolizing the world and our bad habits, but instead move forward along the right path.
