Morning Devotion Thoughts

Uncle Stephen M introduced this year's devotions, The Wilderness Wanderings, by focusing on four themes: God is Always Active, Stand Still, Don't Grumble (Be Grateful), and God Leads the Way. My favourite of the four lessons was Stand Still. This means putting everything aside to fully focus on God. Even during the most difficult parts of life, God asks us to be still and trust in Him. The children of Israel feared because they were being chased by their enemies, they cried out because they let their thoughts and doubts cloud their vision of God's hand in their lives. God intervenes through Moses with an amazing promise in Exodus 14:13-14: "Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more forever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." How amazing that would have been to hear! Sadly, even after everything God had done for them, Israel began to grumble, showing a lack of gratitude. James 1:17 states it perfectly: "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above." It is so important to look for God in every little thing, for without Him we would have nothing. To conclude, Uncle Stephen left us with another important lesson: God leads the way. He did for Israel with a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night, and He does for us today. God's word, the Bible, is our lamp and light (Psalm 119:105). Let His word guide your life. Remember to stand still, be grateful for every little thing, and trust Him to lead the way.
