Morning Devotion Thoughts
This month in devotions we dug deeper into the wilderness wanderings. We learned about the burning bush with Uncle Brian Alexander and how the bush is a symbol of Israel. How Israel would be put under immense slavery, but God would not let them be consumed. The lesson for us is that we will not be consumed if we trust in God. We also looked at how God uses fire to show His power, glory, and presence throughout scripture. With Uncle Jacob Hodge, we learned about the ten plagues. We learned how the plagues were there to help the Hebrews know God and for the Egyptians to come to know Him. We also learned how each of the plagues defeated an Egyptian god and showed that God was the only true God. God not only used the plagues to demonstrate that He is God, but to show the Hebrews He had the power to bring them out of Egypt. With Uncle Frank, we considered how, during the Passover, Israel had to get rid of leaven not only from the bread, but also their houses. In 1 Corinthians 5:6-8, we saw how a little leaven does a lot, which shows us we need to keep sin out. When we bring in only a tiny bit, it's very easy to get caught up in it. The key lessons we learned this week are we need to know Yahweh is God and just like how God demonstrated it to Israel He demonstrates it to us. We also need to make sure we keep out the leaven (sin) in our lives and look forward to the kingdom God has promised.
