Morning Devotion Thoughts

Over the course of the school year we've had several topics touching on plants, food, and landscapes. In the month of February we had several brothers come in and talk about lessons on plants and wood. For example, Uncle Nathan came in a spoke about Gopher wood, drawing out lessons from this and the life of Noah. He talked about the Gopher tree as an example of God bringing salvation to His people, and that we have to trust in Him. He draws this lesson out from Isaiah 55 and Hebrews 11. Uncle Nathan also touched on lessons from the life of Noah, demonstrating how Noah always did what God asked of him, regardless of the task. By looking at these lessons he concluded that we have to obey God's word, and not just part of it but everything that He asks us. Another lesson we touched on was mint, anise, and cummin which Uncle Luke spoke about. At the beginning of the week, he introduced us to the only mention of mint, anise, and cummin together which is Matthew 23:23. After talking about this he drew out the lesson from this chapter and how we should avoid being hypocrites like the Pharisees. Uncle Luke also talked about tithing and how we should cheerfully give back what belongs to God. Threshing and putting things into perspective, was also drawn out in Uncle Luke's devotions. When he talked about these things he showed us how separating the wheat from the chaff is like trials in our lives and by threshing we are removing the bad stuff and keeping the pure things. Finally, by putting things into perspective we can focus more on the spirit of the law instead of the law itself. Instead of concentrating on just tithing and giving back to God, we should be focusing on God's characteristics like Mercy and Judgment, and how we can be more like Him.
