Holiness

"Be holy" is a command given by God to the children of Israel in Leviticus 11:44,45. This command comes right after God outlines the difference between clean and unclean animals and laws around their interactions with them. These commands will lead them to a very different life than what they are used to in Egypt. The question is, why does God want them to follow these strange and different laws? God says, "I am Yahweh that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy." God wants His people to be different from the Egyptians because He is different from the Egyptians. He wants them to be holy because He is holy. The Egyptians will look at the Israelites and think they are strange because they look differently, speak differently, worship a seemingly invisible God, and they even do things that appear unnecessarily hard. In 1 Peter 1 we are told that we are to live by the same motto today, "Be ye holy; for I am holy." We strive to live by this at CHC and so our slogan is Consideration, Holiness, Commitment. The world will look at our school and think we are strange for the way we look, the way we act, and the way we speak. But our answer is simple - our school operates in the manner it does because we are trying to be like God. This year at CHC, we ask staff, students, and parents to consider how we might create an environment that emphasizes God's holiness. Let us work together in every interaction and in all things pertaining to CHC to be holy - our God is holy.
