Bible Character Dress-up Day

Message from the Morning Devotion

This year at CHC we have been looking at characters in the early life of Christ in the recorded devotions. Specifically, we looked at Mary’s faith and willing obedience to God’s angel telling her that she would conceive the Son of God. Bro. Dan Osborn spoke about how different our response might be if we were given this same command, and how incredible Mary’s answer to the call was, especially since she was most likely in her teenage years. This would have been a very daunting prospect for Mary at such a young age, and she could have felt like she was unable to do this. This is such a good lesson for us at CHC because we too can sometimes feel like our age prohibits us from helping and that we are too young to help in the ecclesia. This is absolutely not true. Paul wrote to Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:12, “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” Paul and Timothy’s relationship was a perfect example of how the older and younger members of the ecclesia can help each other. The younger generations can help give a fresh look and a new perspective, while our older brothers and sisters can prove wisdom and an up-keeping of the principles once laid down. Another great example in the Scriptures is Ruth’s relationship with Naomi. Ruth left all she knew to take care of Naomi, this is also an example to us of how we should feel about our Heavenly Father; ready and happy to leave all that we have to live the Truth and walk in Christ’s footsteps. At CHC we have such a unique and special opportunity to grow in a Godly environment and strengthen each other. Proverbs 22 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” No matter where we are in our walk to the Kingdom, we are all still growing, and can help each other no matter the age. Mary was given one of the greatest tasks of all, so are we given a great opportunity and responsibility to respond to the truth; so may we have the same willingness and answer, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to Thy word.”
