Message from the Morning Devotions
This month, we have continued to look at the commandments of Christ. Uncle Brian reminded us that the key word in commandment is 'command'. By obeying and respecting God's commands, then we are showing love towards him and we become His friends.
Uncle Frank did a devotion on not giving evil for evil. The best example of a person in the Bible who put this into practice was the Lord Jesus Christ. So many times during his life he was mocked and put to the test, but he always held his peace. In our world today, so many people struggle with controlling anger. The letters M-A-D can stand for Mutual, Assured, Destruction. When people get mad, it often leads to destruction or sin.
Uncle Frank also exhorted us to flee youthful lusts and brought us to the passage 2 Timothy 2:22. Rather than pursuing youthful lusts we need to pursue and to follow after righteousness, faith, and peace. Many people today flee in fear but most of the time they do so in vain because they do not put their trust in God. People also pursue the wrong things in life: a career, an education, and the cares of this life. However, if we flee and pursue in the light of God, He will be with us.
"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 3:13-14)
